John Foster

I am a London based photographer and image maker.

I have been creating images since the early 1970's, using film and gaining extensive darkroom experience to produce black and white prints.

During this time I developed a system of making physical overlay screens to alter the texture and depth of my prints and to create visual interest.

In 2000 I moved into digital photography and pursued my production of texture screens, this time using overlays, digital filters and blending modes.

Digital software also allowed me to construct composite images and this combination of composites with multiple overlays is now a hallmark of my current work.

I am primarily a photographer of place. I try to convey the spirit of a place and how it makes me feel rather than simply recording a view.
